With the arrival of the first Sprotte® needle at the end of the 1970s,spinal anaesthesia established itself as the alternative loco-regional anaesthesia technique to general anaesthesia. The secret of its success lies in the unique design of its tip. The atraumatic entry and optimal gliding properties of the Sprotte® needle minimise potential damage and prevent foreign bodies and tissue particles from being transported into the subarachnoid space, while reducing the incidence of post dural puncture headaches.
